Nita was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, when she was just 18 months old. More than a decade later, she has fought, survived, and is living a good life. She beat the odds.
Nita—and her family—spent a year in and out of St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital, and endured 12 months of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiation. Nita started to walk again just a few weeks after her brain surgery—her spirit and determination got her up and moving sooner than anyone thought she could.
Like any child dealing with cancer, Nita faced the disease and its treatment in her own way. Through it all, she kept playing and smiling and laughing. “She was our little pink girl, always demanding to wear pink,” says her mom. “She knew what she wanted, even at two years old. All of these children have their own journey and their own story, and you’d be amazed at their heart and courage.”
